Street/Drainage Department:   Responsible for the repair and maintenance of all public streets and alleys and all public drainage ways and related facilities in the city.  With the exception of the State Highways, the street crews are responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of  traffic control devices, (i.e. signs, markings and signals); patching of holes in streets; and, in the case of storms or fallen trees, it is this department that responds to assist the community with the needed cleanup of debris. 

Routine daily activities include; mowing, cleaning, and dredging of unimproved channels and bar ditches, and the removal of debris from culverts, inlets and bridges.  This department also assists the Sanitation Department during peak periods with large/heavy trash pick up.

Sanitation Department:  The Sanitation Department provides for the removal of all trash and rubbish and recyclable materials.  Each residence in the City receives regular collection service two times per week and special collection of large items and brush once per month.

Commercial collection service is provided with service levels dictated by the needs of each individual customer.

RESIDENTIAL SERVICE:  REFUSE MUST BE PLACED IN DISPOSABLE PLASTIC BAGS (NOT GROCERY BAGS) AND PLACED AT THE  CURB FOR COLLECTION NOT EARLIER THAN 5 A.M. AND NOT LATER THAN 8 A.M. ON THE DAY OF COLLECTION.  PLASTIC GARBAGE BAGS ARE AVAILABLE AT CITY HALL FOR $7.00 PER ROLL (50 Bags Per Roll).

HEAVY TRASH/BRUSH PICK UP: ONCE PER MONTH BY ZONE .  Residents may put heavy trash and brush out for pickup in their zone beginning the Saturday before their designated week through the Wednesday of their designated week.  All brush, limbs & tree trimmings must be kept separated from other items.  The brush, limbs & tree trimmings are carried to the city's mulching station.  All other trash and debris is carried to the landfill.

Curbside Recycling
for Clute Residents

The City of Clute has the Blue Bag (commingled) Program for curbside recycling. Blue Bags are used to distinguish between recyclables and garbage going to the landfill.

Recyclables should be placed in Blue Bags (no larger than 30 gallons) and set at the curb for pick up on Wednesday of each week.

Following is a list of items that are acceptable and how to prepare them.

All Blue Bag items can be mixed (co-mingled).

PREPARATION: Remove lids, empty, wash, crush (if desired) DO NOT CRUSH AEROSOL CANS OR GLASS.

Magazines (Layered Cardboard)

PREPARATION: Newspapers & magazines should be clean, dry & in plastic or paper grocery sacks. Cardboard should be flattened. Place at curbside only on sunny days.

Blue Bags are available at City Hall in rolls of 50 (13 gallon bags) for $4.25.
