The City of Clute operates under the Council/Manager form of government.  The City Council is comprised of a mayor and five council members, who serve two year staggered terms, and are elected on a "ward" system.  City Council meets every second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall.  The meetings are open to the public and you are invited to attend.

The City of Clute operates under a Home Rule Charter.  The City Council is the legislative body of city government.  The City Council appoints the City Manager who is responsible for the general administration/operation of the City on a daily basis and the Chief of Police who is responsible for the general administration/operation of the Police Department.  The City Council also appoints the City Attorney, the Assistant Municipal Court Judge and the Fire Marshall.  Members of all the various boards and commissions who volunteer their time and energy to the City are appointed by the Council.
